dead animal removal

Denver Dead Animal is a team of skilled wild animal removal specialists who focus on humane, safe, and legal removal and/or control of wild animals, both dead and alive. With a variety of tools and techniques, there isn’t a problem too big or small, or too complicated; they’re the experts in finding dead animals in difficult-to-reach places, including crawl spaces, attics, basements, wall cavities, and more. Rodents, for example, often die in wall and floor cavities when they are poisoned with rodenticide, and they are notoriously difficult to retrieve, particularly in older buildings. We have created a tried-and-tested approach to deal with any animal, in any type of building, domestic and business alike. Our previous removal jobs have been in apartment blocks and schools, shops, food establishments, residential homes and gardens, city or county buildings, farmlands, public transport systems, and more. Once retrieved, we dispose of carcasses in a legal, safe, and proper way. This includes rodents, opossums, raccoons, bats, snakes, foxes, coyotes, frogs, lizards, and more. We can also offer you a pet cremation service, providing a respectful and proper way to deal with your cherished friend’s ending. We are experts in dead animal removal, and take our job seriously. When removing dead animals, we do a COMPLETE job — not only do we remove the dead animal from your home or yard, we also decontaminate the area, deodorize it, and dispose of the animal or cremate it. If you aren't sure whether the stench in your house is due to a rotting carcass or another reason, we can sniff it out with our noses from our years of experience. We remove dead raccoons, dead opossums, dead skunks, dead squirrels, dead birds, even dead dogs and cats. We frequently remove dead rodents from inside walls, because poison kills rats and mice, who die in your house. We completely solve your dead animal problem by taking these steps:

  • Sniff out the dead animal if it is somewhere in your home
  • When necessary, for example if the animal is in a wall or under your house, cut a hole to remove the animal
  • Remove the dead animal, safely and completely (and seal the hole if needed)
  • Finish the job by decontaminating and deodorizing your home
  • Properly dispose of the dead animal through incineration or other means
  • Prevent it from happening again by finding out how they got in your house

Dead animal carcass removal is specialty work. Sometimes the job is simple, such as a dead opossum in the yard, in which case we can simply wear our gloves and respirator mask, bag the carcass, and take it away for incineration. Sometimes this is more complex, such as when the dead animal is under a home crawlspace, under a porch or deck or shed. Or if the animal is larger, such as a dog or a deer. The most complex cases are dead animals inside the house. The animal may have died inside the attic, or down in the walls, or the duct work, or any other part of the architecture. You may have a bad smell in your home, and you're not even sure what's causing it. We've removed not just dead animals, but rotting food, bad mold, etc. We specialize in locating the source of the smell, and we very commonly cut a hole in the ceiling or wall to remove the animal. We remove every bit of the carcass, mop up the juices, vacuum the maggots, spray it and wipe it down with disinfectant, cleaner, and we repair the hole we cut. In some cases we use ozone machines to neutralize odor.

Denver Dead Animal Tip: Does a dead animal carcass fly?

Flies can be found around the world, and are a constant problem for humans. Their actual name, blowfly, is abbreviated from the word bloated. The word used to describe the condition of animal carcasses that flies use as nursery to lay their eggs and raise their larvae, or maggots. Blow flies will usually be found around dead animals. They are attracted by the rotting smell, and are happy to use it to breed and lay eggs. They can also be found in large numbers around garbage dumps, animals holding pens, and slaughterhouses. Oddly enough, the adult flies prefer to feed on the sugary sap or sweet nectar of flowering plants. They lay their eggs in rotting flesh of animals that have recently died. This gives their larvae (maggots) the nourishment they need to grow. Once the maggots are ready to pupate, they will fall on the ground and burrow in. Soon they will emerge as full grown flies and complete the circle of life. There are around 1200 species of blow flies throughout the world, and they are the most common type of fly. They differ greatly from house flies or fruit flies that they are a metallic blue or green in color. They also have larger heads than house flies, and are larger overall than fruit flies. Blow flies range from 0.28 to 0.63 in overall length, and their weight is almost nothing. If you find an infestation of blow flies in or around your home, you must always have a dead animal somewhere in your vicinity. Finding the dead animal is almost impossible because it will have been dead several weeks by the time you notice the flies. Even a tiny mouse can attract a herd of flies! Here are some tips to avoid this nasty infestation.

Do away with any possible breeding areas. This means dead animals, sources of feces, anything rotting, and garbage. It is necessary to remove materials that encourage flies to lay eggs. Killing the adult will cut down on their numbers, but eliminating breeding sources will cut down the reoccurring population.

When using dumpsters, always follow proper sanitation guidelines.

Screen your doors, windows and other openings to keep flies from gaining entrance.

Use tight fitting lids on garbage cans and clean them regularly. A single garbage can produce as much as 40, 0000 flies or more in a week.

If the infestation of flies becomes unbearable, you may have to resort to chemical controls. There are products on the market that can be sprayed daily/ weekly/monthly, according to your needs. Use these and any other poisons carefully!

Fly strips and fly baits are readily available at any variety, hardware, or a feed store. Strips contain a sticky substance that attracts the flies and traps them once they land on it. Baits are usually a food that attracts the fly. Once it consumes the bait, it is dead in about one minute.

While blow flies are attributed with the transmission of bacteria from dead bodies like those that cause dysentery, typhus, and cholera, they have some good uses. Flies clean up the world by allowing maggots to eat the dead flesh and help the bodies’ compost. Maggots have also been used in medical practices for cleaning wounds. Certain maggots will only consume dead flesh, leaving the healthy flesh to heal quicker.
